Submitted on 9/9/2019 Review title of slayerchris935 star campaign, 1 star for greedy developer $choices$I would give the campaign 5 stars. Graphics, lighting, environments and character design are amazing.
Sound is best in series and music hits the right notes. New characters are likable and old characters are respected. Cutscenes are flaweless and story is good. Gunplay feels excellent (especially the gnasher), return to classic controls is much appreciated and the new knife mechanics are fun. Now why it scores low. Online-only, pay-to-win horde mode. Micro transactions infect everything not campaign like the Swarm themselves, $49 season pass which is mostly loot boxes and the rest is access to the 24 exctra mp legacy maps from the old games sold as $5 each seperate.
Extra characters are super grindy to unlock without more spent $ buying lootboxes (not to mention a huge lack in multiplayer characters compaired to Gears 3). These greedy devs feel like they are trying to milk us like dumb cows. Submitted on Review title of kidwhoistiredGears of Meh 4Post gears 5 launch they removed voting for ranked completely and while this feels better in terms of moving around than 5 does, it took 4 years for a game to have content and no more RNG packs. TC might have genuine interest in making a old franchise gold once again, both of these just suck. Gaming standards nowadays will NEVER be what they were, and it's sad.
Gears 3 will forever encapsulate an era, even if online there was horrible camera shake and sawed off shotty spam. Submitted on 9/13/2019 Review title of AM3R1CAN MUSCLEHorde mode is a HUGE disappointment!!!I can't believe you can no longer use all of the cash that you obtain from killing enemies in Horde mode, but instead have to share it with others by depositing it in some fabricator box where anyone can just buy the most expensive item and all of your cash that you worked hard for is gone! And believe me - they always try to run to it and buy things before you can. What a HUGE disappointment!
People can also steal your cash which is left where your enemy died and use it for themselves! I'm going back to Gears of War 3 where I can actually spend all of my hard-earned cash. Not to mention: all of the 34 online maps are small except Drydock- God forbid we should have somewhere to run when we get over-run, you can no longer vote on the maps you want to play, the horde spawns directly next to you, they removed our beloved Silverback and awesome bosses, if you die you lose ALL of the cash that you're carrying instead of a small amount like in Gears of War 3. Submitted on 9/24/2019 Review title of UnknownThese games are awesomeGears of War is easily one of the best 3rd person shooter series out there, and this is proof.
Gears 4 looks amazing and plays great on xbox and pc. Even though Gears 5 is already out, I'm just now playing this one and am blown away by how well it runs on a mid range gaming pc. Rather than give you a review here, I'd encourage you to grab a friend and try the games for yourself. Games like these are why I signed up for GamePass Ultimate. Submitted on 10/2/2019 Review title of UnknownGreat game, ok storyThe game is great, horde was a lot of fun, the mechanics are still as tight as ever, and the graphics are outstanding.
I'm only partway through the campaign but it hasn't really pulled me in yet, but the potential is there. There is a lot of cool world building that has happened between gears 3 and gears 4, wit the COG becoming the new evil overlords, and the new DB enemy types. The Swarm is boring, with the drones being absolutely no different from the Locust drones, and the juvies just being re-skins of wretches. They could have taken more chances with the enemies, but overall, it doesn't detract too much from the game.If you're buying Gears for the story, you're not getting the most out of it.
